Care and Maintenance Instructions
Waterlox® tung oil
Signature Custom Woodworking is proud to furnish you with this solid wood counter top. We know you will enjoy it for many years.
The wood for your top has been carefully selected from the finest grades of kiln-dried lumber available. After the top has been produced to fit your particular needs for size, shape, and species; we then apply a Waterlox® tung oil finish. It is easily maintained with only a couple of light applications of Waterlox® tung oil each year. The Waterlox® tung oil used on your top is pure and “baby safe” when dry. The manufacturer states this on their website www.waterlox.com. This finish is recommended by the manufacturer for use on kitchen table tops. This Waterlox® tung oil (Satin Finish), sandpaper, and buffing pad can be purchased at Woodworkers Supply, this is their website pro.woodworker.com. Your custom made wood top is a piece of fine furniture and can be easily maintained for a lifetime of enjoyment.
Your top has been designed to be used as a working surface. Scratches or burns from hot pots, etc., can easily be removed by sanding with a fine grit sandpaper, (220 grit is perfect), always sand with the grain of the wood. Then buff the area with an Abralon® 3000 grit buffing pad and apply Waterlox® tung oil afterwards. This is a simple process, just follow the instructions on the container. After many years of use if your top shows more than honest wear you can sand the entire top, buff, and apply more Waterlox® tung oil and have a new finish on your top.
Normal clean up can be done with a solution of warm water and mild soap. Rinse lightly with clear water and dry any excess. Recent studies have shown that unhealthy bacteria survive on plastic cutting boards but die quickly on wooden ones. Wood contains natural enzymes that kill bacteria.
